Extrasolar planets and brown dwarfs around A - F type stars ⋆ III . β Pictoris

چکیده
In the frame of the search for extrasolar planets and brown dwarfs around early-type stars, we present the results obtained on β Pictoris, which is surrounded by a circumstellar disk that is warped by the presence of a planet. We used 97 spectra acquired with CORALIE and 230 spectra acquired with HARPS to characterize the radial velocity behavior of β Pictoris and to infer constraints on the presence of a planet close to this star. With these data, we were able to exclude the presence of an inner giant planet (2 M Jup at a distance to the star of 0.05 AU, 9 M Jup at 1 AU). We also discuss the origin of the observed radial velocity variations in terms of δ Scuti type pulsations.

Models of very-low-mass stars, brown dwarfs and exoplanets
Within the next few years, GAIA and several instruments aiming to image extrasolar planets will be ready. In parallel, low-mass planets are being sought around red dwarfs, which offer more favourable conditions, for both radial velocity detection and transit studies, than solar-type stars. In this paper, the authors of a model atmosphere code that has allowed the detection of water vapour in th...
متن کاملExtrasolar planets and brown dwarfs around A - F type stars ⋆ I . Performances of radial velocity measurements
We present the performances of a radial velocity measurement method that we developed for A-F type stars. These perfomances are evaluated through an extensive set of simulations, together with actual radial velocity observations of such stars using the ELODIE and HARPS spectrographs. We report the case of stars constant in radial velocity, the example of a binary detection on HD 48097 (an A2V s...
متن کاملA NICMOS Direct Imaging Search for Giant Planets around the Single White Dwarfs in the Hyades
We report preliminary results from our search for massive giant planets (6-12 Jupiter masses) around the known seven single white dwarfs in the Hyades cluster at sub-arcsec separations. At an age of 625 Myr, the white dwarfs had progenitor masses of about 3 solar masses, and massive gaseous giant planets should have formed in the massive circumstellar disks around these ex-Herbig A0 stars, prob...
متن کاملExtrasolar planets and brown dwarfs around A–F type stars ? VI. High precision RV survey of early type dwarfs with HARPS
Aims. Systematic surveys to search for exoplanets have been mostly dedicated to solar-type stars sofar. We developed in 2004 a method to extend such searches to earlier A–F type dwarfs and started spectroscopic surveys to search for planets and quantify the detection limit achievable when taking into account the stars properties (Spectral Type, v sin i) and their actual levels of intrinsic vari...
متن کاملRapid Formation of Gas Giant Planets around M Dwarf Stars
Extrasolar planet surveys have begun to detect gas giant planets in orbit around M dwarf stars. While the frequency of gas giant planets around M dwarfs so far appears to be lower than that around G dwarfs, it is clearly not zero. Previous work has shown that the core accretion mechanism does not seem to be able to form gas giant planets around M dwarfs, because the time required for core forma...
